He proudly served in United States Army 82 Airborne Division and the Army National Guard.
He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, he enjoyed listening to music, and spending time with family.
He is preceded in death by his: mother Bersabe O. Pena, sister Enedina Gonzales, brother Crecencio Pena, and eldest son Robert Ortiz
He is survived by: Virginia Mendoza, sister Rosa Benitez, sister in-law Manuela Pena, children Randy Ortiz, Robert Ortiz Jr and wife Teresa, Deborah Arcos, Johnnie Ortiz, and Sandra Ortiz. Grandchildren: Brianna Nichols, Josh Ortiz, Amanda Coffey, Vanessa Flores, Robert Ortiz III, Kyle Ortiz, Sarah Ortiz, Brandon Thompson and Shelina Bell. Many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria del Angel on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Monday, October 28, 2019 the procession will depart from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. for an 11:30 a.m. Committal Service at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
