Richard "Rick" Perez

Richard “Rick” Perez, age 61, passed away on the evening of Sunday, October 22, 2023, after a brave battle with colon cancer. Rick showed tremendous courage by facing his illness with strength and a smile. He was born in San Antonio, Texas to Mary Escamilla Lopez and Ricardo Perez.

A proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, he loved growing up and living in San Antonio. Every year he looked forward to celebrating Fiesta by listening to live music and dancing in Market Square. Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman who would get to the coast any chance he could. He was always ready to share a funny story or joke having those around him laughing all the time. Yet, his greatest gift was being an amazing dad to Sophia. Rick loved to share his fondness of travel with Sophia and her sister Ali, taking them on many trips around the U.S.

Rick leaves behind so many to cherish his memory; his daughter, Sophia Perez, her sister Alexandra Valverde, his partner Carol Hartmann, siblings Roy Perez (Lisa), Sandra Murray (Terry), Joy Rose (Danny), his nieces and nephews Ryan (Anna), Ryan’s children Eva and Sebastian, Regan, Chloe, Brendan, Jules and John Paul and his stepmother, Yolanda Perez. Along with a multitude of friends, many of whom were lifelong, who were always ready to be by his side, showering him with love, support and prayer.

He is now reunited with his father Ricardo Perez, his mother, Mary Escamilla Lopez and her husband, Tony Lopez.

Rick’s service will be Friday, November 3, 2023, with his family receiving friends and relatives beginning at 5:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas, 78232.
