Rei Tanabata Riley, age 91, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. Rei was born on July 20, 1931 in Akita, Japan to Hasa and Kintaro Tanabata.
Rei was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Cleo W. Riley. She is survived by her children, James (Jim) Riley of San Antonio, Texas and Patricia (Patty) Riley Rodriguez of Dripping Springs, Texas; and her four grandchildren, Blake Riley, Brianna Riley, Kianna Rodriguez, and Mitchell Rodriguez. Rei is also survived by five of her six siblings: Shozo Tanabata, Sachiko Takahashi, Chiharu Tanabata, Kunio Tanabata, and Yashio Tanabata, all living in Japan.
Rei will be laid to rest with her deceased husband at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on November 18, 2022.
