Ramon also answered the call to serve his country with unwavering dedication, enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He proudly served a total of 42 years in the military, completing his time as a Chief Petty Officer. His service earned him the respect of his peers and instilled in him the values of courage and commitment. 
His dedication to faith and community was equally profound. He served several churches in the San Antonio area, starting his first retreat at Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1955. He was a lecturer and greeter at Mission Concepción and a dedicated usher at St. Dominic’s, where he volunteered to count the mass collections weekly. For over ten years in the 1980s, he was the Chairman of the Fall Church Festival at St. Dominic’s. As a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, he showed unwavering commitment to his faith.
Ramon’s humble upbringing fueled his dedication to helping the poor. For many years, he delivered turkeys and food to those in need during the holidays through St. Vincent de Paul. He even volunteered as an usher when Pope John Paul II visited. His passion for evangelizing shone through his work with ACTS retreats, where he not only donated money to start the first retreat at St. Dominic’s but also anonymously provided hundreds of Bibles specifically for the men's ACTS retreats.
At the age of 80, he opened Holy Family Catholic Books and Gift Store, even though he didn’t know how to work the cash register and kept records by hand. He ran the store as a ministry, fully aware he was losing money, but he felt it was his calling to give back and to Evangalize .
In the 1960s, he began investing in properties, growing this venture into the family business. Despite his successes, he lived very modestly and humbly. He also worked as a civil servant at Kelly AFB for 35 years, retiring in 1985, but never truly retiring from his commitment to service.

One of Ramon’s greatest joys was fishing, especially in Rockport, Texas. His love for the water was infectious, and he didn’t stop fishing until just over 90 years old. For him, the coast was a sanctuary, a place where he could spend quality time with his family each year. His dream was to buy a house in Rockport, bringing everyone together for joyful gatherings. We were fortunate to spend many July 4ths and summers there, creating lasting memories with our grandparents, filled with laughter, love, and the thrill of fishing together.
As we reflect on his final moments, we realized that he began his life with the sister of the Incarnate Word at St.Peters and St, Joseph's home and his last moments on earth were enveloped in prayer, with the Josephina sisters reciting his beloved rosary at his beside surrounded by his family.  It is a fitting farewell for a man who dedicated his life to faith and family. 
We will carry your memory in our hearts, cherishing the lessons you taught us and the love you shared. Your legacy will inspire us to live with kindness, humor, and steadfast faith in God. Thank you for being our guiding light. You will be deeply missed, but your spirit will forever remain with us.

Today, we come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of Ramon Lozano Perez. Born in San Antonio, Texas.,Ramon entered the world during a time of great upheaval. His parents immigrated from Candela, Coahuila, seeking safety from the violence of the Mexican Revolution. With his mother, Josefa, facing the daunting challenge of raising nine children alone, she made the heartbreaking decision to place them in St. Peter’s/St. Joseph’s orphanage, ensuring they would be cared for.
Ramon grew up in that home, finding joy and solace during Sunday visits with his mother, sisters and aunts. He was a determined young boy, running away at just eleven to shine shoes downtown, later working at a supermarket before becoming a butcher. His early experiences shaped his character—instilling resilience, humility, and a strong work ethic that would define his life.
At the age of 27, Ramon married the love of his life, Maria del Socorro Elizondo Cantu. Together, they built a beautiful life and, just a year later, welcomed their first child, Martha Marie. Three years later, Roy was born, followed by Grace, and finally, Raymond. He poured his heart into nurturing his four children, teaching them the values of love and service that he held dear.
His kids remember him taking them swimming at Conception Park, tired from the day’s work. They would beg him to take them and he never complained. He would squirt water from his hand, and everyone thought it was magic. He was always so much fun, creating countless cherished memories that will stay with them forever.

So very blessed to have been able to call Ramon Lozano my Father n Law for over 37 years . From the first day I met him he was so kind and welcoming . Over the years I grew to love him just like my own Father , He was always so warm and loving and always with  a smile .
He always had a joke to share with everyone and was the life of all of the gatherings with the family .
He was a very smart man and taught my husband and I so many wonderful and beautiful lessons  of life .
His love for God , his family and his steadfast faith was something I admired tremendously.
I will never forget all the beautiful memories we shared together with our family especially the wonderful times we shared with my Father n Law in Rockport.
Love you Dad , missing you so very much!!!
