Paul Thomas “Tommy” Carter, born on February 25, 1939, passed away on November 18, 2014 surrounded by his whole family. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from April 1960-April 1962 spending 16 months in Korea. He married Carol Louise Galm on August 27, 1966. He and Carol were involved in San Antonio Marriage Encounters and the Emmaus Community of San Antonio for several years until their next chose “Love” became more important. Tommy and Carol have been involved in Kairos Prison Ministry since 1992. He was the leader for a Kairos weekend at the McConnell TDCJ Unit in April 2007. He had just completed a Kairos weekend Oct. 30-Nov. 2 of this year. He had served on several Kairos teams in eight (8) different units over the last 22 years. The inmates all called him “Santa”. For the last 42 years, Tommy has played a natural Santa Claus. He attended a lot of private parties, day care centers and the “Breakfast with Santa” at his church for a lot of years, with all the proceeds going to his beloved Kairos. He was looking forward to his 43rd year. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carol Galm Carter; brother, James Lee Carter; sister, Betty Lou Carter; six children, Tammie Carol Vance & Willy; Meta Carroll, Harold Wesley Carter & Dawn, James Thomas Carter & Tawney, Lena LouEllen Carter and Christopher Lee Carter & Tammy; 11 grandchildren, Charlotte, Lucas, Richard Earl III, Kyle Wayne, Deanna, Ian, Jesse, Jarrod, Kristena Leigh, Danica, Wyatt; four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Elizabeth, Zachary and Kye; In-laws, Teddie Lou Galm & Dan Stephens, Fern Galm Quintero & Rudy, Harold “Butch” Galm & Cindy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of his life will be at Northwest Hills UMC, 7575 Tezel Rd. on Monday December 1, 2014 at 10 am, followed by a feast in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held on Monday December 1, 2014 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home from 6-9 pm. A graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday December 2, 2014 at 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kairos Prison Ministry of Texas-McConnell Unit in c/o of Mrs. Linda Anderson, 6802 Vinyard, Corpus Christi, TX 78414. Representing his church are Joe Baumgartner, John Dinsmore, Chuck Roach and Mike Turner; Representing Kairos are Darvin Dieringer, Ed “Coach” Gorny, Ralph “Buddy” Moglia and Juan Menjares.
