Patricia Ann Sutton, born October 9, 1927, in Wichita, Kansas, passed away on November 3rd, 2022 at the age of 95. Patricia, often called Pat by her friends and family, was raised an only child by parents who put a great emphasis on higher education and the importance of using one's talents and gifts to serve others. Pat graduated in 1947 from Friends University and later moved to Edinburg, Texas to be close to family. It was in Edinburg that she met and married her husband, Harrold Sutton in 1950. They began their lives together in Corpus Christi and enjoyed a full life both socially and in serving their community through volunteering.
Pat always looked for opportunities to give back. She served as the PTA Treasurer, was a library volunteer and also served as the Blue Bird leader at her daughter's school in Corpus Christi. She was also very active in the Red Cross. She volunteered her time teaching free swim lessons at the city public pools. She was also a certified lifeguard at the city public pools and volunteered during the summer. While in Corpus Christi, Pat started taking bridge lessons and through this hobby she met many of her lifelong friends. She was passionate about the game of bridge and that passion remained throughout her life.
In 1963, her husband Harrold accepted a job with Trinity University and the family moved to San Antonio. Pat quickly made many new friends after joining the Trinity University Women's Club and continued her participation for many years. She joined the San Antonio Newcomers Bridge Club to meet other bridge enthusiasts. She also became involved in the Windcrest Women's Club and their bowling league and garden club. Never straying from her desire to serve others, she continued to volunteer in her community well into her later years. After learning that the Low Vision Bowling club of San Antonio was in need of volunteers, she joined in to help and became their leader and volunteer coordinator serving well over 15 years. This was a position and group she dearly loved. She always shared stories about the friends she made in the bowling league with her family.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Andy Snap and Alice Smith, her husband, Harrold Sutton and son-in-law, Dr. Richard Newberry.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherril Theis and husband Jerry, son, Brian Sutton and granddaughter, Lishelle Covin as well as her extended family members Craig and Amy Sutton and family and Brenda and Mike Suggs and family.
Services are pending for the immediate family. We would like to thank all those who sent their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The family would also like to extend our utmost gratitude to Ana, Gaby and Paty for their kind and compassionate caregiving. Memorials in Pat's honor may be made to the Trinity University Women's Club Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice.
