Born in San Antonio, Texas on September 29, 1982, Oscar’s talent for boxing was recognized early as an amateur boxer winning many awards. He was a 1999 Junior Olympic champion. In 2001 was his professional debut. In 2008 at the age 25, was his last professional bout. He had a total of 29 professional fights and was a former welterweight champion. Oscars’ love for boxing showed through his many accomplishments throughout his career. A graduate of Lanier High School, Class of 2000 and dedicated to his life of boxing; Oscar “El Torito” Diaz at the age of 32 passed away on February 26, 2015. Survived by his mother Teresa V. Diaz and son of the late Eugenio S. Diaz. Also survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Teresa (Edward), Rebecca, Sylvia, Eugene and Fernando (Mary). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Oscar loved to be with his family and friends. He will always be remembered. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd., from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A procession will depart the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. for a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park.
