A Florida girl regardless of where she was, Nancy and her husband moved to San Antonio fifty years ago and raised their children in the Alamo Heights School system. She was an extraordinary woman who showed compassion for everyone she met and translated this compassion into a life of service. After receiving an Early Childhood Development degree from Vanderbilt University, she taught kindergarten and pre-school for many years. She later was director of pre-schools at Northeast Baptist Hospital and Oak Hills Presbyterian Church. After earning her Law degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, she used her talents with people as the head fundraiser at the San Antonio Symphony and Easter Seals of San Antonio. She also owned and operated her own estate sale business and the Versi Hair salon on Broadway. Her last position was at the Assistance league of San Antonio where she was Vice President for Resource Development for this wonderful and unique non-profit organization.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jonathan Fast; her son Lawren Fast and daughter-in-law Anamaria Suescun-Fast; her daughter Meredith Fast Weatherby and son-in-law Clark Weatherby; her granddaughters Lael Weatherby and Kennedy Weatherby; her grandson Charles Edward Weatherby; her sister Barbara Bates Duke and brother-in-law James Duke. She was preceded in death by her mother Gladys Johnson Bates and father Lawrence William Bates.
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2023 in the San Pedro Presbyterian Church sanctuary followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
