Michael J. Ring

Michael J. Ring of San Antonio, TX passed away on Friday, January 21st,2011, after an almost 4 year battle with lung cancer. Mike, a lifetime non-smoker, had been diagnosed in April, 2007. Mike was born February 9, 1948, the son of John M. and Eileen G. (Vaughan) Ring. In 1954 the family moved from Trenton, IL, to Effingham, IL, where Mike attended grade school and high school. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Terre Haute, IN), and two Master’s degrees from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN), one in Industrial Operations, and one in Management (MBA). Mike served in the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam Era, achieving the rank of Captain. He spent over 31 years working for Western Electric / AT&T Network Systems / Lucent Technologies, first in Indianapolis, IN, and later in Norcross, GA. He retired from Lucent in 2001. He also spent three years as the Business Manager at the Rolling Hills Academy Catholic School in San Antonio, TX. Mike married Peggy Jean Sudyk in 1974, and to that union were born three children, Jeffrey, Kevin, and Julie. Peggy preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Feiyi Zhao in 2001, and to that union were born two children, Matthew and Anna. Surviving are his wife Feiyi Ring of San Antonio, TX; son Matthew and daughter Anna Ring of San Antonio, TX; son Jeffrey Ring of New Orleans, LA; son Kevin Ring (Katherine) of Grand Rapids, MI; daughter Julie Van Wyk (Ryno) of Sparta, WI; grandchildren Lyla and William Ring of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers Patrick Ring; Thomas Ring (Linda); and Robert Ring (Chris); several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents, his wife Peggy, and his niece Amber Ring. The funeral will be held at 10am, Friday, January 28th, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Helotes, TX. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rolling Hills Academy, 21240 Gathering Oak, San Antonio, TX 78260
