Melody Larkin, born in Brownsville, Texas, went into the loving arms of our Lord on April 14, 2017, at the age of 63, after a valiant and short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles J. Child and Dolores Paredes Child, her child Lilith Colbert, her sister Marta Zamora and brothers, Enrique and Fernando Gomez. She is survived by her sister Norma McCombs (Paul McCombs) and brother Joe Gomez (Susan Gomez). She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces and other family members.
Her last days were spent in the caring hands of the Heartland Hospice personnel who made her laugh and kept her comfortable. The family appreciates their efforts and also the care of the independent caregivers who were with her till the end.
Melody had been in the care giving profession herself and had joined the staff at the State Hospital in 2015 where she made many new friends with one extra special friendship with Alfred Garcia, who made sure to make her life easier in so many ways as her cancer progressed. The Staff was so compassionate and giving when they learned of her cancer and stood by her even after she could not perform her duties. The family thanks you.
Melody loved butterflies, the Cowboy look, Rhythm & Blues music, especially Johnny Taylor, fishing, having a good time, sharing what she had, and was passionate about her work. No one could say she was lazy. She will be missed by all, especially her sweet friend “HB” Burrell and her two forever friends, Toni Brooks and Terri Bryant and her pets, with her favorite being kitty Baby Lily.
Memorial services will be held on May 20, 2017 at 11:30 am, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, (210) 828-2811.
