Mattison T. Schwartz, age 80, SFC, Retired, U.S. Army, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on July 29, 1929 in Camden, New Jersey to Mattison and Margaret Schwartz. Matt serviced as a Combat Medic and retired in 1973 from the U. S. Army. Some of his decorations, medals and commendations were the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5 Awards), Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, RVN Cross of Gallentry w/ Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Medical Badge, and Bronze Star Medal. Matt volunteered as a fireman in Pennsylvania and for a number of years with the Heidi Search Center in San Antonio. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert T. Schwartz. Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Schwartz; daughter, Wendy J. Castillo & her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Dustin, Sienna, Phillip, and Jonathan Castillo; sister-in-law, Jeanne Siderio & her husband, Dan of Gettysburg, PA; and cousin, Nancy Lippincott of Boston, MA. Visitation will take place from 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
