We lost Mario Vielmann Sr. on April 3, 2016. Mario proudly served in the armed services in 1948 after having graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, TX. After being discharged and completing his collegiate education while in the service, Mario worked as a civil engineer for Tobin Arial Surveys until he retired. Mario was also an expert ranch hand, particularly hunting, fishing, leasing, and managing property that had been handed down through generations in South Texas’ Zapata County.
He enjoyed auto repair, buying and selling cars, do-it-yourself home projects, watching country western films, and visiting with family and friends. He was a tough boss and father, but knew how to be kind, forgiving, and was well respected in the community. When you talked to him, he was calm and patient, full of life with an excellent sense of humor. Even in the last few years of his life, he was determined to do things on his own, while still cracking a joke and smiling to let you know he didn’t take himself too seriously.
Mario Vielmann Sr. will be missed. He is survived by his brother Armando Vielmann and sister Dea Johnson; his children Teresita Vielmann, Ricardo Vielmann, Cynthia Hiller, Mario Vielmann Jr., and Elvira Vielmann; grandchildren Joshua Vielmann, Victor and Kyle Hiller, and Vivienne Vielmann; and great grandson Joshua Vielmann II. Mario is reunited with his parents Ricardo and Lilly Vielmann and son John Vielmann.
Arrangements have been made at the Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, please send a kind donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
