Helen was raised in Garland, Texas, graduated from Garland High School and also received a Bachelor's degree from Texas Women’s University. While attending TWU, she was selected for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Also while attending TWU, she met her future husband, Bernard Grimm, whom she married in 1950. They resided in San Antonio, both lovingly serving God, family and community. Before joining Central Christian Church, she was a very active member of Woodlawn Christian Church. Helen also volunteered her time in PTA and held numerous positions. She served as a Girl Scout leader for many years and volunteered at Jefferson Outreach and other organizations. She was also an avid bridge player.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernard of 54 years and son Mark. She is survived by daughters Linda Grimm and Julie Saurage (Mike), grandchildren Kylie Harrelson (Jacob), great-grandson Jack Harrelson, Ryan Saurage (Kali), Lynn Saurage, Daniel Grimm (Marie) and great-granddaughter Taylor Grimm.
She is also survived by daughter-in-law Lynda B., children Brandon Murray (Mylinda), Becky Sparrow (Todd) and their children Adelyn, Cooper, and Corine, D.J. Murray (Tiffany) and their children Macey, Meghan, and Madison. Helen is also survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A visitation for Helen will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Central Christian Church, 720 N Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78602.
