Manuel G. Tijerina, age 89, went to be with our Lord on June 14, 2010. He was a WWII Army veteran. He served under General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge and later at Bastone, and received three Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1836, also a VFW member. He retired from Kelly AFB after many years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Regino and Maria DelaLuz Tijerina; brothers, Matias and Mateo, sister, Francis, sons, Alexander and Bernard, grandsons, Brandon and Ronald. Manuel is survived by his wife, Dolores Pastrano Tijerina; children, Manuel (Lupe) Tijerina II, Maria Teague (Lee), Maurice (JoAnne) Tijerina, Alfredo (J.P.) Tijerina, Jerome (Linda) Tijerina, John Philip Tijerina, Brigid (Robert Jr.) McIntyre, Patsy (Mark) Henson and Rose Ann Bononcini; grandchildren, Manuel III, Robert, Stephen, Misty, Jose, Jeremy, Christian, Dominique, Anthony, Matthew, Isaac, Christina, Veronica, Jacob, Carmen and Amber; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Reagan, Noah, Brandon Jr., Connor, Arianna, Elena, Liliana, Aerias and Zachary. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera road on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 for a 12:00 P.M. mass at Price of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Patrick Cronin officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery with Army military honors.
