Lupe I. Celaya born on October 20, 1953 went to be with our Lord on July 9, 2019 at the age of 65. She is preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Daniel Ibarra, Jr. and Raymond Ibarra. Lupe is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Edward Celaya; parents, Daniel and Mary Ibarra; son, Edward Anthony Celaya, Jr. (Katie Miller); her adoring grandchildren, Evan Jackson Finicle-Celaya and James Anthony Finicle-Celaya; siblings, Gilbert Ibarra (Belen Trevino) and Anita Ibarra; followed by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lupe worked for USAA beginning with the company at the age of 19 and would continue with them for thirty-six and a half years. When not working, Lupe enjoyed spending her time outdoors, camping and fishing in her younger years. She liked antiques, and enjoyed vacationing in Colorado and was an avid dog lover, especially of her chihuahuas.
Lupe also enjoyed crafting Christmas wreaths which she would gift to family members as well as to friends. But, sometimes her best efforts at gifting were spent on spoiling her nieces and nephews before she had her own son. The coldest Christmas season she experienced during her marriage found her crafting four toddler-sized Little Orphan Annie dolls for four lucky little nieces. The project was completed on the very day of Christmas when the temperatures outside dipped as low as 14 degrees. In her later years, the Christmas season would find Lupe in the kitchen baking cookies or making peanut brittle to share with the extended family.
During her battle with cancer she shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with other cancer patients and medical technicians and other medical personnel she encountered in her fight. Lupe will be dearly missed by all her close family and friends. Her fight against the disease ran for three years after her diagnosis – an extended gift from God.
