Lori A. Velasquez

Lori was born in Crystal City, Texas on July 15, 1962, to Amador and Lupe (Aguillon) Acosta. Her mother later remarried Leonel Ibañez after her father died when she was a young child. Lori grew up in Alice, Texas with her four brothers and was the second oldest. She graduated from Alice High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. After college, Lori moved to Europe where she worked and travelled with the international group Up with People before moving back to Texas and settling in San Antonio. It was in San Antonio that she met Robert Velasquez. On December 28, 1989, Lori and Robert married. They raised three children, Veronica Leticia Velasquez, Daniel Amador Velasquez, and Andres Roberto Velasquez. She was a loving mother who always pushed to provide her children with experiences and opportunities.

Lori worked for several banks but spent the majority of her career at Broadway Bank in the Wealth Management Division. She developed friendships with many co-workers throughout the bank and treasured her client relationships. Outside of work, Lori was involved with several non-profit organizations where she donated her time and service to the community. Kinetic Kids, a local nonprofit that offers sports and recreation to kids with disabilities, was close to her heart as her own son, Daniel, participated in their programs from a young age. She served on the Kinetic Kids Board of Directors for 15 years up until her passing. More recently, she joined the Board of Directors of Reaching Maximum Independence, an organization that helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities become independent. Lori was an advocate for inclusivity and equal opportunities, especially for children with special needs.

In addition to her volunteer work, Lori loved reading, gardening, theater and the arts, going to the movies, family gatherings and parties, attending festivals and community events, and the many cats she had throughout the years. You could also always find Lori with a brooch for every occasion and every outfit. She had a generous heart, was a friend to all, and liked to remind her family, especially Robert, that smiling was much easier than frowning. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Amador Acosta and Lupe Acosta Ibañez.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Robert Velasquez of San Antonio, Texas, daughter, Veronica Velasquez of Dallas, Texas, two sons, Daniel Velasquez of San Antonio, Texas and Andres Velasquez of Little Rock, Arkansas, four brothers, Amador (Elda) Acosta Jr. of Alice, Texas, Gustavo (Debra) Acosta of Fort Worth, Texas, Adrian (Lily) Ibañez of El Paso, Texas, and Sergio (Lorissa) Ibañez of Corpus Christi, Texas, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Funeral arrangements and services are being managed by Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
