On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Leo G. Ramos, Jr. our beloved father, passed away. He was ninety-one. Born to Leobardo and Carmen Ramos, in Uvalde Texas 1931. Leo met and later married his high school sweetheart, Emma Diaz in 1957. Leo graduated from the University of Texas and went on to work first as a social worker and then in housing. He began his work as a social worker with the Department of Human Services. He became a Community Organizer for the Office of the Governor in Austin and later a Community Organizer for the City of San Antonio, Community Action Program. Eventually he moved on to work as a Rural Housing Specialist for the Rural Housing Alliance Corp-Washington D.C and as the Director of Housing Development for Interstate Research Associations also in Washington D.C. He later became the Director of Housing for the Associated City/County Economic Development Corp. in Edinburg, Texas and, after that Director of Community Development for the Mexican American Unity Council. From there he rose to restoring communities as the South-Central District Director for the Federal Home Loans Bank System and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, retiring from that position after nearly twenty years of service. After retiring from that position, he worked as an Asset Manager for the San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation, for several more year, until 2015. Throughout his busy career, Leo was also a civic and community leader, being appointed to the Rehabilitation Council of Texas eventually rising to the position of Chairman of the council from 2003 to 2004. He was also a member of LULAC, a Mason, a Board member of the Ballet Folklorico de San Antonio and a member of the City of San Antonio Disability Access Advisory Committee.
Leo is survived by his children, Boni Ramos (Mark Molina), Michael Ramos (Veronica Ramos), Rebecca Ramos-Fischer (David Fischer), Gregory Ramos and Jimmie Kay Ramos and Benita Lopez (William White), as well as his six grandchildren, Bryan Ramos, Alexander Ramos, Isabella Ramos, Mariabelen Martinez, Matthew Palenica, Chloe Ramos, and Siprianita White and two great-grandchildren, Emma Lynn Ramos and Iean Ramos.
The Memorial Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
The Memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 3 p.m.
