Juan Gallegos Ortegon

Juan “Johnny” Gallegos Ortegon, born January 22, 1947, passed on the afternoon of February 27, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julio Ortegon, Sr. and Juanita Gallegos Ortegon, and his brothers, Julio Ortegon, Jr. and Marcelino Ortegon.

He is survived by his brothers, Robert Ortegon and Roy Ortegon, sisters, Guadalupe Martinez and Carmen Ortegon, and their families, including 16 nephews and nieces and their children. His family is grateful many of them were able to visit with him in his last days.

Juan was a veteran of the US Army who served in Vietnam. He was a member and supporter of Disabled American Veterans. An avid sports fan, his favorite teams were the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, and UT Longhorns Football and Basketball.

Juan’s quiet strength shone through his relationships with his family, whose visits were always welcome. His affection was often expressed through his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He was always ready to help when someone was in need.

Services will be held Friday, March 8, at Little Flower Basilica, 1715 N Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78201. Visitation begins at 8:30am, Rosary at 9:30am, followed by a Mass at 10:30am. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery III.

A funeral mass will occur Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM, 1715 N Zarzamora Street, San Antonio, Texas 78201. An interment will occur Friday, March 8, 2024 at San Fernando Cemetery III, 1735 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78226.
