Joyce Marie Ellis

She was born in Dallas, Texas on August 17, 1937.

She was married to Vernon Ellis (her sweetheart) on June 20, 1959. They were married for 48 years.

Joyce started her career at Neiman Marcus where she met Vernon. They moved to San Antonio where she went to work at Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation. Joyce worked there for 51 years where she eventually became the Executive Director. She was going to retire every year for the last 20 years!

Joyce loved her family, friends and work family very much. She enjoyed reading, the theater, and movies. She truly had a passion for books and old movies.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Glover and husband James, her son Michael Ellis and wife Estella. She had 10 grandchildren. Courtney Percy and her husband Chip, Matthew Glover and his fiancé Amber, Tyler Glover, Joe Torres, Abel Torres, David Torres and wife Noelle, Jonathan Ellis, James Ellis and wife Katherine, Vanessa Ellis, and Lauren Ellis. Joyce had 12 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 and a Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
