Josefina Rodriguez, 99, passed away November 13, 2013. She was born on August 4, 1914 in Victoria, Texas. Within her 99 years Grandma Fina, as everyone affectionately knew her, lived in three different cities. She began her life in Victoria, where she remained until her mother moved to Matamoros, Mexico. She moved to Brownsville to be closer to her mother. When her mother became ill, she moved to Matamoros to care for her. She then moved to San Antonio, where she lived for 65 years. Grandma Fina had a hardworking and entrepreneurial spirit. She was one of the first people to sell homemade Easter baskets and floral arrangements that she put together with the help of her family. She was always willing to take in family members, raise them, and care for them as they needed. Her door was always open to her family. Grandma Fina had a sharp mind to the very end of her life. At age 99, she was still managing her finances and taking care of her house.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Salud Castro, her husband Manuel and her son, Jesus C. Lucio. She is survived by her children, Carmen Anguiano, Matias Lucio, Ana Maria (Alex) Lopez, Mary Esther Gonzales, Beatrice (Raul) Trevino, Dora (Jose J,) Guerrero and Irene (Raul Flores) Rodriguez; brother, Eliseo Castro; 37 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 68 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild. Other close family includes Paul Lucio and Joe Bononcini. She appreciated the Alpha Group, especially Emily, Trini, and Paula who helped care for her during her final years.
Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Sunday November 17, 2013, from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary service at 6:00 P.M.
