Captain Jonathan Nyle Muniz, 42, of Rocky Ford, Colorado, went home to be with our Lord on January 8. He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Muniz and son, Alex Muniz, of San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Ben P. Muniz and the late Marcia Muniz of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Siblings include: Maria Muniz Klob and husband Tim Klob of La Junta, Colorado; Miguel Muniz and wife Santana Muniz of Denver, Colorado; and Felicia Muniz Adelman and husband, Darin Adelman of Phoenix, Arizona. Nephews: Xavier, Tristan and Simon. Nieces: Rheana, Sophia and Brooklyn and numerous, caring, family and friends.
Jonathan entered the Army on February 24, 1993 as an enlisted soldier. He was commissioned to 2LT on January 16, 2004. His many awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Two Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, Three Army Good Conduct Medals, Two National Defense Service Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal/Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal/Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal, Two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Three Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO Medal, Air Assault Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Expert Medical Badge, and the Parachute Badge.
Jonathan served at many stateside and overseas assignments. His final duty station was at Fort Hood with the HHC, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska, Medical Center, as a Physician Assistant.
Jonathan loved his family far and wide, but especially his wife and son. He was passionate about helping others. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies, and absolutely loved music.
Visitation will take place at Sunset Funeral Home at 6 pm, on Wednesday, January 14. A Rosary will follow at 7 pm. On Thursday, January 15, at Saint Pius Catholic Church, 3909 Harry Wurzburg, a mass will take place at 1:30. Followed by a graveside, military burial at Fort Sam Houston
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to USAA, where a trust fund will be set up for his son, Alex.
