John K Whalen “Chef Chile” passed away unexpectedly at home in San Antonio Texas at the young age of 57.
John was born in Syracuse NY to the late John P Whalen and Anne M Whalen. He graduated from Henninger High School and Paul Smith’s College in NY State. He was an accomplished executive chef who worked in many restaurants and kitchens across the US and all over the world, most recently the Carter Creek Winery & Resort in Johnson City TX.
He is survived by his 3 children, Meghan Whalen of Cicero NY, Jessa Whalen and John P Whalen of San Antonio TX; a grandson Conor Whalen; 3 sisters Kathy Farrance (David), Patrice Thomas and Denise Dunbar; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 5 pm to 8 pm
