Joe L. Rodriguez

Joe Luis Rodriguez passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 75.  He was born in Rosenberg, Texas on March 16, 1944 to his parents, the late Fernando and Maria Rodriguez. From 1966 to 1969, Joe was part of the 3rd Battalion - 39th Infantry - 9th Division Infantry in Vietnam. He was a staff sergeant and drill sergeant in the Army. He was student body president at the University of Houston where he received a degree in the Arts. He also attended St. Phillips College and received an associates of applied Science. He was a great man that was not only loved by his family but also by his community. He had many friends who admired the person that he was and he was always there to help someone in need. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank Rodriguez; his nephew, Michael Rodriguez; Brother-In-Law, Frank J. Gomez; Mother-In-Law, Eva J. Gomez; and his Father-In-Law, Guadalupe Gomez.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Silvia Rodriguez; his daughter, Krystal Castaneda (Chris); his grandchildren, Joshua Galaviz, Deja Castaneda, Mason Castaneda, and Nikolas Castaneda; his great-grandchildren, Julia Cano, Mateo Cano, and Elena Cano; his sister, Adela Trevino (Alfonso); his brother-in-law’s, Ernest J. Gomez (Eva), Guadalupe Gomez, Jr. (Misty), and Roy J. Gomez (Ruby); and his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who adored and admired his being.

The family will be receiving friends for a Memorial Service on Thursday, August 8th from 3 PM to 9 PM at Roy Akers Funeral Home - 515 N. Main Ave. 78205 - with a service to begin at 7 PM. The Burial is to take place on Friday, August 9th at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery - 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. 78209 – at 10:15 AM at Shelter #2, where Military Honors will be rendered to Mr. Joe L. Rodriguez for his service in the United States Army.
