Janie V. Garcia

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Rosalia V. Garcia; her son, Michael James Garcia; and her siblings: Lupito

Garcia, Abel Garcia, Ramona Vallejo and David V. Garcia, who preceded her in death by a mere five days. She is survived by her daughter, Janiel-Rose Hinojosa and her siblings: Mary Carrillo, Juan “Johnny” Garcia, Esperanza “Hopie” Flores, Rosie Vasquez and Emmie Garcia…in addition to many nieces and nephews who absolutely adored her.

Janie loved to make people laugh. She was truly gifted in so many ways, but her ability to bring joy to others was unparalleled. She often dressed as a clown for family birthday celebrations, not only to make people laugh, but because she genuinely enjoyed making others happy. She was always so giving of herself, especially to the children in her family, making holidays memorable with her unique gifts and traditions. In fact, she loved to tease her daughter on holidays by giving her gag gifts before revealing true

gifts…just to witness the laughter. She was sunshine personified, always brightening a room by just being in it.

Janie lived for her daughter and all the kids in her family. Her love of children was evident in everything she did. She was her family historian, constantly documenting sweet stories about every member of her family. She even put those sweet memories into several books for her family members. She collected pictures, business cards, programs, wrote down funny quotes…all for the benefit of her “kiddos.” She also handmade so many gifts for her family members. From good luck charm key chains to jewelry, she

was always creating things with her own hands and gifting the items with a, “It’s not much, but it was made with LOTS OF LOVE”

message. To her nieces and nephews, she was known as “Mommy Janie” or “Your Aunt Janie Who You Love So Very Much.” She will be so greatly missed by all of her kiddos who love her so very much.

Another love of Janie’s? Playing cards with her siblings, nieces and nephews. Those family card games could get heated at times, but they always ended with laughter and a challenge for “next time.” Knowing she will be playing cards with David a.k.a. “My Boy” up in Heaven brings comfort to her family here on Earth. Of course, the siblings have to be nice about challenges now because Mama Challa and Papa Lupe will be sitting at that glorious table with them, too.

Despite the sadness that overwhelms us, knowing Janie is now at peace brings great comfort to her family. We will be celebrating Janie’s and David’s lives on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Visitation will be at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road. The viewing will be at 5pm and the praying of the Rosary at 7pm.
