Gwendolyn E. Garcia

GWENDOLYN EDITH GARCIA of San Antonio, Texas, started her journey to the Heavenly Father on August 6, 2016, at the age of 79. Upon her arrival, a host of Angels will take her to the all Mighty Lord and she will sit in Heaven forever and ever. May God bless her and may she always know that her family loves and will miss her. Born March 26, 1937, in Woodeaton, England, Gwen dedicated her life to raising her children and nurturing her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved everyone she met and was much loved in return. She enjoyed sewing, especially wedding gowns for her friends and family, making cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special occasions, and traveling.

Gwen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frederick N. Garcia (USAF, Ret’d.), and their daughters: Vena Driver (Steve), Lu Sokolovich (Larry), Teresa Cruz, and Toni Morrison (Steven); five grandchildren: Rheannon (Ray), Jason (Michelle), Justin, Megan, and Trent; five great-grandchildren: Jobe, Braxton, Arianna, Brooklyn, and Mason; and her extended family, all of whom she loved and loved her. The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Northeast Methodist Hospital for their loving care. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Morgan’s Wonderland, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
