Gerald “Jerry” Griffin III, 78, was born August 15, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland and entered into God’s kingdom on June 6, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. Jerry was the most loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Tatiana; sister Liz and her husband Asa, sister Ginny and her husband David; sons, Michael and Greg and his wife Susan; grandchildren Kaylee and Zachary; stepchildren Tati Vertiz and Daniel Vertiz and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Gerald II and Maria.
Upon graduation from Central Catholic High School, Jerry attended San Antonio College for a few years. During that time he met his first wife Glenda Roby, and they married in 1965. Jerry then enlisted in the US Navy where he served two years as a communications specialist. Upon leaving the military he completed his MBA at the University of Texas in Austin. He is a proud and loyal UT fan.
After college he worked as a CPA and a few years later he started his career with Brundage Management Company where he became the Chief Executive Officer for 43 years and retired from the company in 2018.
Jerry Married Tatiana in 2008 with whom he shared the last 16 years of his life with. They traveled to Europe, Africa and Asia together, where they both enjoyed their passion for history and culture. They both loved each other very deeply.
Jerry had a love for the outdoors. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, which he shared with his sons and close friends. He was also an accomplished and avid tennis player. He played up to six times a week, even after suffering many debilitating injuries. At the height of his tennis career he accomplished a rating as a 5.0 player. His love was not only for the game, but for the many friends he had in the tennis community.
Jerry was an incredibly selfless man with great integrity, who will be truly missed by his family and friends. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love, will be forever engrained in all he knew.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232.
