“Gabey” was very creative. His interests over his lifetime included history, mythology, natural disasters, slime, architexture, robotics, film, and cooking. During his history, mythology, and natural disaster phase, he researched and replicated tornados, volcanoes, Titanic, Atlantic. He was particularly fascinated by Pompeiian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman culture.
Another pastime Gabey enjoyed was making several versions of slimes he would always ask others to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of 3 categories: texture, smell, and stretchiness.
His favorite toys were magnetic building blocks gifted to him by his great grandparents, Fernando G. and Rene Valadez. On many occasions did he impress his family with the structures he would create and recreate from muscle memory such as haunted hotels, restaurants, and entire cities.
His grandma, Felicia Valadez, bought him his own cookware as he grew older and he enjoyed his ability to be trusted to cook and create in the kitchen. When “Gabe” was in the kitchen, he was the head chef. He liked to make lunch for everyone and would always ask others if he could make them something if he was cooking for himself. Among his cookbook go-to’s were grilled cheese sandwiches, bacon and egg breakfast tacos, french toast, pancakes, and noodles. He even made a custom recipe with his aunt, Audrey Alexander, named “lazy potatoes” which has been deemed a new Thanksgiving staple.
His teachers describe him as marching to the beat of his own drum, quiet, well behaved, a good student, and a good brother. He was a patrol officer in elementary and played the viola in 6th grade. He was brave too and demonstrated this by attending nearly every school dance.
“Gabey Baby” was known for always trying to make people laugh (knock-knock jokes and “burns” were his faves). One of his best and most admirable qualities was his protectiveness over his family. He always held Lillie’s, his sister, hand when crossing streets and going on outings from the since they were both toddlers. If his sisters, Lillie and “Isa” were ever sick, he would be right by their side asking the adults to make sure they get better. His siblings and him loved to chase each other. If his mom, Sylvia Valadez, was ever down, he would always be the first one to give her a big hug. He loved his family very much and did everything he could to protect them.
Our baby boy will be deeply missed. We know he is still with us and we are so grateful for the blessing to have been a part of each other’s lives ♡
