Born June 2, 1927, Alfredo “Fred” Sheely Segovia, Jr. and left this world to meet his Holy Father in heaven on February 7, 2018. He was born in Cotulla, Texas, son of Alfredo Segovia, Sr. of Cotulla, Texas and Esther Sheely of San Antonio. Fred moved to San Antonio at a young age and lived here for the remainder of his life. It was in San Antonio, where he met Olivia “Bebe” Diaz, the love of his life. Fred often told the story of the first time he met Bebe, recalling that God told him she would be his wife.
Fred joined the Navy at the age of 17 in July of 1944. He was assigned to serve in Pearl Harbor on the USS Bergen. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946. Upon returning to San Antonio, he wed his beloved Bebe that year. They had four children and remained happily married for 71 years. After military service, he became a civil servant. He worked at Kelly Air Force Base as an electrical engineering technician, earning many accolades and accreditations. He developed new testing procedures for the electrical systems that streamlined and improved critical processes. In that capacity, he traveled across the country to various Air Force bases to train teams in his new methodology. Fred retired in January 1978 and began a successful venture in renovating and selling homes. He and Bebe worked as a team and enjoyed seeing the fruits of their labor. Fred was the rock and glue of not only his family but of his extended family members and friends. He was devoted to his four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Fred absolutely delighted in all babies which gave him such joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Gilda Waters. He is survived by sisters, Diane Acosta and Sylvia Segovia.
Olivia "Bebe" D.Segovia
Born August 16, 1928, Olivia “Bebe” Segovia left this world to meet her glorious maker on February 24, 2018. She was the daughter of Enrique Diaz and Conception S. Diaz and a livelong resident of San Antonio, Texas. She will always be remembered as a kind, loving, funny and generous woman who did so many wondrous works of devotion for family, friends and complete strangers.
She was a stay at home mother in the early years of her marriage but also had many and varied employment years ranging from kindergarten teacher to working tirelessly at early voting polls.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of seventy one years, Alfredo “Fred” Segovia, Jr., her parents, sisters Sally Diaz and Mary Rosales, brothers, Fred Moya, Joe Diaz and Henry Diaz. She is survived by her sister Lola Casias (husband Pete) and her four children: Albert Segovia (wife Cyndie), Margaret Holifield (husband Dennis), Cindy Martinez (husband Richard) and Kathy Belmonte (husband Carlos). Four grandchildren, Lori Blasch, Rick Martinez, Roxanne Sosa and Aaron Quesada.. Numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
