Fernando R. Castaneda, age 66, was called home to heaven on March 22nd, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas after a long battle with cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Fernando managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife and children, who he loved more than anything else in the world. He was born in Runge, Texas on October 27th, 1954 to Vicente and Diana Castaneda. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed. He was an over-the-road truck driver for over 30 years and an avid 49ers fan. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with his family, and traveling with his wife but always found time to help his children in their times of need.
Mr. Castaneda was preceded in death by his parents Vicente and Diana Castaneda.
He is survived by his wife Lidia Castaneda; daughters, Jeanie Perez (John), Carrie DeLaFuente (Andy), Lorrie Castaneda (Todd), his grandchildren; J.D., Jessica, Cierra, Jess, Atticus, Maximus, Sloane, Eason, and Mylynn. Two sisters; Roselinda Funk and Nancy Perez. Three brothers; Martin, Ernest, and Terry.
The Celebration of Life Service will be at 3pm (including rosary) Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel located at 1701 Austin Hwy. San Antonio, TX. 78218.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to The American Cancer Society.
