Ernest Gonzales was born on January 20, 1958 to Belen and Julian Gonzales. He was called home to his Lord and Savior on December 1, 2024 at the age of 66 years old. Ernest was a southside native and prided himself on being Burbank alumni. Ernest lived and breathed baseball. He played amateur ball while he attended college for a short period of time, a story he shared with his children many times. Aside from his affinity for baseball, Ernest was a natural born salesman and got his start as such at La Féria in 1975. In 1984 Ernest began working at Summers Electric, where he grew his career in the electrical supply industry. In 1984 at Summers, he met and fell in love with his beautiful co-worker, who became the true love of his life, Sherri. They soon moved in together and got married in May of 1986. Shortly after, in October of 1986, they welcomed their first child, Stephanie. For the next 6 years Ernest and Sherri built a life together, and bought a home in Kirby, a small community on the outskirts of San Antonio before welcoming their second child, Evan in October 1992. The family enjoyed a beautiful life full of love and happiness. Ernest was a well-known Kirby little league coach, as well as having coached numerous select ball teams, and spent many of Evan’s childhood years being his coach. So much in fact that many people will affectionately remember him as Coach Ernest. Aside from baseball, and salesmanship, his unwavering love for his wife and children showed throughout his years here on earth. His legacy will always be revered and remembered through his children, through those who loved him, and those whose lives were impacted by him.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents Belen and Julian, his beloved wife Sherri, and his two beautiful baby granddaughters Amaia and Azelea.
Ernest is survived by his two children Stephanie (beloved son-in-law John Zamora) and Evan, his sister whom he loved so dearly, Rose (brother-in-law Roland Vela), his sister with whom He’d recently reconnected with and also loved, Jaqueline (brother-in-law Jim Schaffer), his mother and father in-law, Patrick and Patricia Kerry, whom he had always held in the highest of regards, and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many very dear friends.
In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to The Ernest Gonzales Memorial Baseball/Softball Scholarship through the SAISD Foundation to support baseball/softball students from Burbank with a college scholarship.
