Dorothy Jean Jamison, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in San Antonio, Texas on November 21, 2019. She was born on November 25, 1935 to James William Bush and Pearl Lillian Revel. She was married to her love of 61 years, Frederick Wayne Jamison.
Dorothy retired in 1991 from USAA after 25 years and never looked back. She devoted her retirement years to her family and enjoying life. She loved travelling and gambling, not necessarily in that order. Most often it was travelling to gamble! Many miles were driven to shooting matches around the country and even to Australia, with many of the destinations determined by whether there was a casino near by or on the way! Dorothy also loved to go on cruises with family and friends. She was not one to sit still for very long. Unless, of course, she was driving or at a slot machine. Dorothy also enjoyed watching her beloved San Antonio Spurs and very rarely missed a game. She could trash-talk the other teams better than anyone! Dorothy was very involved in competitive shooting and held a variety of offices for the Alamo Schuetzen Verein and was the first woman inducted into the American Rimfire Association Hall of Fame.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters – Mildred Bush White, Wilma Bush White, Cortez Bush Rhoads White, and Doris Bush; and her brother James William Bush, Jr. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her son, Frederick Michael “Mickey” Jamison; and son-in-law Brent Somers.
She is survived by her husband, Fred and their children – Debra Renee Somers, Paulette “Polly” Sue Locklin, and David Brian Jamison. Her much-loved grandchildren – Krista Renee and Harold Davis, Brent Russell Somers II, Christian Michael and Brittany Hillert, Cory Morgen Hillert, Clint Matthew Hillert, Paula Ann and Ean Smith, Wendy Jean and Max Pacheco. And her even more loved great grandchildren – Bailey Renee Garza, Kyleigh Paige Garza, Avery Rose Davis, David Cochran, Jacob David Smith, Khloe Rayne Smith, Faith Lynne Smith, Anastasia Flores, Michelle Hill, Max Pacheco, Logan Pacheco, Falin Elizabeth Hillert, and the much anticipated Baby Girl Hillert.
Pallbearers: Chris, Cory, and Clint Hillert, Harold Davis, Ean Smith, and David Jamison.
The family would like to thank New Century Hospice and her nurse Melissa and CNA Letty, for the loving care and spiritual guidance they provided the last few weeks of Dorothy’s life. Because of them she was able to spend her final days in the comfort of her own home. The rest of the family would also like to thank Debbie for being such a dedicated caregiver to both parents over the last couple of years.
Our much loved Granny now rests in peace.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 25th from 6-8 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 27th at 12:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
