After graduating from high school, he served in the Navy for two years during World War II. After his military service, he attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he obtained his Masters Degree in Education. He met Norma Smith at University Christian Church and they were married on August 15, 1953.
Don taught school in Austin and completed his education with a degree in accounting becoming a CPA. He then began his accounting practice in San Antonio.
Don was a member of Central Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, and on the Board of the Endowment Fund and went on mission trips to Ecuador and Jamaica. He was a member of the Oak Hills Rotary Club where he served as President and District Governor, and was active in the University of Texas Alumni Association. He participated in the Rotary International Foundation and the Christian Church Foundation.
He was a loving husband, father, and friend and loved to travel on annual family vacations. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to give special thanks to Sonia Meda for her wonderful care and assistance.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma, of 68 years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Steve Willmann.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 30th at 11:00 am at Central Christian Church, 720 N. Main Ave; San Antonio, TX 78205. A Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 31st at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home with a crypt side service to follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
