Charles Howard White, 81, of San Antonio, TX went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017. He was born on August 8, 1935 in San Antonio, TX to Robert "Ray" White & Eleanor Davis. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed.
Charlie grew up across the street from Mission San Jose, attending Blessed Sacrament, Central Catholic, and graduating from Brackenridge High School in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was trained in the new field of computers and data processing. After an honorable discharge, he returned to San Antonio where he managed the data processing department of Pioneer Casualty Insurance Company and later First Fire and Casualty. At Pioneer, he installed one of the first IBM advanced processing systems in San Antonio. He loved the insurance business, eventually becoming Secretary of Pioneer Casualty. In 1976, he was a founding partner of Bear Insurance Agency. He made many friendships and business associations throughout his business career. He was still actively serving customers in 2017.
Charlie loved to have fun and to make people laugh, having a joke file several inches thick. The invention of the fax machine allowed him to share his jokes with many, and the arrival of email allowed him to share with even more. He was generous with his time and talent. He enjoyed building and repairing anything mechanical for his friends and family, especially cars and personal computers. He was always there if you needed a friend.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Eleanor White; brother George; and sisters Peggy Lessing and Jewel Badeaux. He is survived by his brothers Mickey White, and John White; his children, Deborah White, Lisa Allen, Candy Thompson and husband John, Allison Allen and husband Devon, Charles White, and Anthony White and wife Katherine; grandchildren Melissa, Brian, Alexandra, Scott, Julie, Kaley, Jessica, Jennifer, Hannah, and Reagan; great grandchildren Amina, Evan, Brian Jr, Ainsley, Avery, Cason, and Colton; devoted friend and caregiver India Forrester, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be 5:30 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Memorial Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz, San Antonio, TX 78209.
