Charles was born on December 31, 1944 in Hugo, OK to Charley and Frances (Julian) Cox. He grew up in Port Lavaca, TX and graduated in 1962 from Calhoun High School where he played baseball and basketball.
On July 10, 1965, Charles married Frances Fox and together they had one son. Charles and Frances spent 54 loving years together where they enjoyed traveling, camping, spending time with family, and baseball. He loved his Texas Rangers. Charles always enjoyed bowling as well as playing softball, golf, and pretty much anything that let him be outside. Just sitting outside around a lit fire always put a smile on his face.
Charles joined the Navy and proudly served his country as a diesel engine mechanic on the U.S.S. Shakori during the Vietnam War from 1966-1970.
Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he returned to Port Lavaca where he worked in his family’s Chevrolet automobile dealership. Through his career, he loved working in the automotive industry and he combined this love of the business with his strong leadership ability to share his knowledge and serve as a mentor with many others through his 45-year career.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Frances; son Jimmy and wife Natalie; and sister Shirley Hobizal.
