Carlos Porfirio Gutierrez, Sr., was born on September 15, 1941, in El Paso, Texas. He passed away on May 4, 2024 at the age of 82 in San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his father Avelino Porfirio Gutierrez and his mother Maria Cecilia Gutierrez.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Alicia (Baca) Gutierrez, his loving children: Carlos Porfirio Gutierrez, Jr. (Michelle Gutierrez), Teresa Gutierrez Smith, Margaret Ann Gutierrez Mata (Danny Mata), Mary Helen Gutierrez-Tapia (Ruben Tapia), Thomas Michael Gutierrez, Rudolf Daniel Gutierrez (Isabel Gutierrez), Rita Susan Carter and Catherine Rose Gutierrez. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Belia Nichols. In addition, Carlos is survived by many loving cousins, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Carlos was a loving, caring, generous, and gracious family man. Married to Carmen for 65 years, he was a faith-filled man and attended Catholic mass every weekend. Carlos loved woodworking, gardening, travel, dressing to the nines, artistic welding, being adventurous, and playing golf. His first job after marriage was at Phelps Dodge Refining Corporation, in El Paso, Texas, where he worked as a crane operator. Carlos had an incredibly strong work ethic and taught the value of demanding work to his children and everyone who knew him.

Funeral Services to honor Carlos’s life will be held in San Antonio, Texas, and El Paso, Texas. A vigil and rosary service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas, 78218. A Funeral Mass for Carlos will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner, San Antonio, Texas, 78258, with a reception immediately following.
In El Paso, Texas, a Funeral Mass for Carlos will be on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3729 Hueco Avenue, El Paso, Texas, 79903. Graveside Services will begin at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2024, at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana Avenue, El Paso, Texas, 79938.
