Bobby was born on December 23, 1934, in Denison, Texas to Wayman and Ruby Harris. He was one of seven children.
Bobby graduated from Denison High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country proudly for 21 years, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major in just 14 years. He traveled extensively throughout his military service to many countries including Germany, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Vietnam. His favorite assignment was Germany where he met and married the love of his life, Ingrid Liesener. They were married for 66 wonderful years.
After 21 years of active duty, Bobby retired from the U.S. Army. He and Ingrid settled in San Antonio, where he continued to serve his country in Civil Service and after 20 years he retired again.
Bobby loved his family and although he lived far away, he was always available for his mother and siblings and they remained very close.
Most of all, Bobby enjoyed having Sunday barbecues and being with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved being an Opa.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Wayman and Ruby Harris, his brothers, Buddy Harris (Nita), Tommy Harris, and sisters, Christine Shone (Johnny), Nancy Hatch (Glen).
He is Survived by his sister Kay Crain (Steve) and brother James Harris (Judy), and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bobby is also survived by his wife, Ingrid, daughters, Jerri Wilson (Michael) and Marilyn Santleben (Floyd), his grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Lindsay Herron (Brett), Weston Santleben (Sam), and Sophie Santleben, and his two great grandchildren, Kade Herron and Mathilde Santleben, with another great grandchild expected to be born in August 2023.
A Visitation for Bobby will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy; San Antonio, TX 78218. A graveside service will occur on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd.; San Antonio, TX 78209.
