Betty Jane Pfeiffer

Betty Jane Jeffrey Pfeiffer passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 23, 2014. She was born April 22, 1924 in Decatur, IL to John Arthur Jeffrey and Helen Evangeline Copeland Jeffrey who moved to San Antonio in 1927. Betty's passion was her family. She was a loving and generous daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She took pride in her membership of 86 years at Los Angeles Heights United Methodist Church, having become a member at the age of three.Betty was beautiful, bright and energetic. Her mother passed away at a young age as did her younger sister, Patsy Lee, so Betty found herself attending high school and helping to raise her younger sister Bonnie Lane while also working at the Copeland family restaurant. She graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1941. She loved dancing and fashion, and was enjoying her new career as a professional model when WWII changed the lives of many. Betty immediately found herself as many Americans did, supporting her country in the war effort. Using her secretarial skills learned in high school, she eventually became the secretary to the Commanding General at Ft. Sam Houston. She excelled at this as she did in all of her endeavors.After her husband Marvin won her heart, they were married in Los Angeles Heights Methodist Church in 1950 where they were both members. Their best friends were also their family. She eventually left civil service to become the office manager for R.O. Jenkins, her brother-in-law, who was a general contractor whose specialty was building churches. The business allowed for Betty to be free in the afternoons, where she could be a full-time mother as well. She was generous with her time and participated in her children's activities, serving as a homeroom mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a devoted mother and saw that both children had every opportunity available to enrich their lives.Betty returned to Civil Service at Camp Stanley after her children had graduated from high school where she completed a total of thirty years of service before retiring. She spent the remainder of her life caring for her husband, enjoying her beautiful grandchildren and caring for family and friends. She always put other's interests ahead of her own and was loved by everyone whose lives she touched.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years Marvin Gene, Sr., brothers Junior Allen (Bud) Jeffrey, John Austin Jeffrey and sister Patsy Lee Jeffrey. She is survived by her son, Marvin Gene, Jr. and his wife Kathleen, daughter Marilyn Kay Pfeiffer and her husband Reginald Ashley Cooper, grandson Reginald Austin Cooper, granddaughters Lauren Brooke Pfeiffer and Ashley Lane Cooper, step granddaughter Nicole Bonicamp and step great granddaughter Riley Bonicamp, her sisters Mary Elaine Jenkins and Bonnie Lane Fuller, brother-in-laws Melvin Merle Pfeiffer and Thomas Boswell Fuller, sister-in-laws Lucille Elizabeth Montgomery and Florence Elizabeth Pfeiffer and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway. Reception following at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1902 Vance Jackson Rd.
