Bernadette Navarro, 74, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2023 surrounded by family. She was the beloved mother of Chris Navarro, 46, and devoted grandmother to Emma Navarro, 15, and Leah Navarro, 13.
Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Alfonso and Concepcion Navarro. She began her career working at Christus Santa Rosa as a secretary. At the age of 44, Bernadette attained her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and became a special education teacher for over twenty years in East Central ISD.
She was an active member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church community. Bernadette had a passion for serving others which led her to obtain a master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from the Oblate School of Theology. She remained committed to serving her church through the St. Vincent de Paul Society and other organizations. Bernadette was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her hobbies included cross-stitching and researching her family tree. Her greatest love was spending time with her son and her granddaughters.
She is survived by her son, two granddaughters and siblings, Becky Garland, Gilbert Navarro and spouse Christina, Victor Navarro and spouse Theresa, Elva Wayda, Michael Navarro and spouse Martha, Julia Navarro and Theresa Navarro and spouse Mike. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Alfred Navarro, Alicia Navarro, and Hortense Lopez; Thomas Wayda (spouse of Elva); Owen Garland (spouse of Becky) and Eleazar Lopez (spouse of Hortense).
The viewing for Bernadette will be on Sunday, March 12, 2023, from 4:00PM to 9:00PM with a rosary at 6:00PM at the Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:00AM at the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the Oblate School of Theology, 285 Oblate Dr, San Antonio, TX 78216. Her burial will be immediately after mass at San Fernando #2 Cemetery, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237.
