Bennie West, devoted husband of Maggie, went to be with the lord on Dec 26, 2016 at the age of 57. Bennie was born in Laredo, Texas and settled in San Antonio after a dedicated career in the Air Force, where he served as a Satellite Communication Installer and trainer, retiring in 2002 as a Master Sargent after 25 years of service. He then worked for over 12 years as a contractor in the Air Force Public Key Infrastructure Systems Program Office (SPO), where his knowledge and communication skills were major forces in helping the office improve network security throughout the Air Force. His Insatiable desire to learn made him continue his education till the end. Bennie was regarded by all a s a giant of a man, not just for his height (6,7”), but also for the size of his heart shown in love for his family, friends, the lord, and his never failing courage over reoccurring serious health issues. Bennie wanted his journey and faith in the face of adversity to be a testimony to others, and he has been a light to many. Bennie was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed working on, and restoring cars and trucks. He also loved spending time with his family, including special father-son breakfasts on Friday with his son Ricky, and long trips with his wife.
Bennie is preceded in his death by his mother, Betty Ann Coutts and brother, Carl West. He is survived by his wife Maggie, son Ricky, daughters Joanna and Mary, his granddaughters Miranda, Cian, and Mariah and grandson Caleb.
Visitation will be on Friday Jan 6th from 10am till 12pm. Funeral services to start shortly after then burial on Fort Sam Houston after. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to help with the unexpected burden of the funeral arrangements. Go fund me page will be available.
