She had a career in education with the Northside and San Antonio Independent School Districts. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Education at the age of 56 that enabled her to enjoy 13 years of teaching. She was also a member of St John Berchman's Catholic Church congregation where she was a Guadalupana.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Estella Vega Martinez; father, Edward Charles; stepmother, Eloisa Charles; son, Daniel Garza; sister, Adella C. Perez; brothers, Hank Martinez and Edward Charles.
Beatrice is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Sauseda (Roger) and Jeannette Van Winkle (Jack Jr.); sons, Joe Garza (Tammy) and Armando Escobar (Veronica); stepchildren, Alfonso Jr., Thomas, Mathew, Kathleen, Kimberly and Melanie; grandchildren, Ronnie Sauseda (Erika), Chris Sauseda, Roger Sauseda Jr. (Maxlyn), Joel Garza, Megan Escobar, Brianna Escobar, Nathan Escobar, Jack Van Winkle III, and Jonathan Van Winkle; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Chris Jr., Jonah, Ryan and Elías; sisters, Stella Tello, Yolanda Barrientez, and Nancy Alfaro; brother, Edward P. Charles.
A visitation for Beatrice will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A rosary will occur Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John Berchman’s Catholic Church, 1147 Cupples Rd., San Antonio, TX 78226. An internment will occur Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd., San Antonio, TX 78226.
