Barbara Hopkins-Vega passed away peacefully at her home in San Antonio, TX on August 8, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on August 8, 1942 in Smithfield, Illinois to Leo and Katie Emery. She was a graduate of Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She was an RN and a Diabetes Educator and she spent many years working at Santa Rosa and Baptist Hospitals.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Tony Vega, daughter, Kimberly Baker and husband, Paul of San Antonio, daughter, Judy Antener and husband, Ronnie of Pine, Colorado, son, Mark Hopkins of San Antonio, granddaughters, Quincy and Berkley Antener and Emily Baker.
Barbara and Tony enjoyed spending time at their second home in Lewiston, Illinois. She had a passion for genealogy. Her happiest times were spent with her granddaughters.
Barbara’s visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 5 to 7 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. On Friday August 14, 2015, a chapel service will be held at 12PM at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetary.
