Angela M. Gutierrez

Angela M. Gutierrez passed away on February 14, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. She died at her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and loving friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her loving husband George Gutierrez II, her father, Demetrio Moreno, mother, Maria de Lourdes Moreno, her sister, Mary Randall, and brothers, Richard Moreno, Javier Moreno and Federico “Kico” Moreno. Angie was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated from St. Theresa Academy. On September 5, 1955, Angie married the love of her life, beginning a storybook romance that lasted 53 years. She proudly and unapologetically dedicated her life to her husband and her children, while having the extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and a beloved member of the family. For almost 30 years, Angie was an assiduous parishioner of St. Luke’s Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic minister and lector. She was involved in countless community activities and charitable organizations throughout her life but her main areas of focus were always her faith in God, and her love for family and friends. She is survived by her brother, Victor Moreno of Manor, a sister, Ana Maria Gonzales, her children, Angela Colonna and husband Stephen, Patti Rodriguez and husband George, George Gutierrez III, Miguel Angel Gutierrez of Dallas and wife Jana and Elsa Underwood and husband Bill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chelsea Rodriguez and husband Aaron, John Andrew Carta and wife Renee, Jessica Carta, Janie Gutierrez, Victoria Gutierrez, George Gutierrez IV, Miguel Angel Gutierrez, Jr. and one great-grandchild, Sarah Michelle Olivares. Visitation will be Friday, February 18, 2011 from 6-8:00 pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, with a reading of the rosary at 7:00 pm. A mass celebrating her life will be held at St Luke’s Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2011 with Rev. Jim Barlow officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Center Council (CCC), a broad-based, non-profit organization supporting the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) of the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. Our eternal thanks go out to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at the CTRC for their unwavering commitment to the eradication of cancer.
