Raul, a native of Sterling City, Texas for most of his lifetime was born on June 22, 1940, but lived in San Angelo Texas for the past 14 years. Raul earned the nickname of “Bear” for being a large and powerful man of incredible strength, but he was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Raul owned and operated a successful sheep shearing business that he put his heart and soul into for over 35 years. Due to his great reputation, his services were requested as far away as Montana and many other states. After 35 years of sheep shearing, Raul decided to become a bus driver for the Grape Creek School District. Raul was a devout Christian man and he always took the time to encourage the students to stay on the right track so they could have the brightest future possible. After seven years of bus driving, Raul decided to retire so that he could spend more time with his family and friends that he cared so much for.
Raul is preceded in death by his loving father Raul Rodriguez and loving mother Julia Rodriguez. Raul is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 39 years, Rosa Rodriguez. Raul and Rosa were inseparable and were a great example of what true love really is to everybody that knew them. Rosa showed her love and devotion towards Raul all the way up to his final moments. Raul was a loving father to his daughter Rosa (Corby) Maskill and sons Raul Rodriguez III and Rogelio Rodriguez. Raul was a loving brother to Rudy Rodriguez, Jesse (Gloria) Rodriguez, Arthur Rodriguez, Ruben (Charlotte) Rodriguez, Bobby (Patti) Rodriguez, and sister Lydia (Felipe) Aguillon. Raul was a loving grandfather to Ryan Anthony Avalos, granddaughter Alicia Maskill and Corby Maskill II.
Raul was a good Christian man that loved his family and friends, and was truly loved back in return. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit will live on through our shared stories and laughter that will last with us forever.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Anderton of Shannon Hospital, the Shannon Hospital nursing staff, the HOSA staff, and all the loving family and friends who made his final days most comfortable.
