Pauline "Polly" Brosh, beloved mother, Meme Polly, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on July 18, 1930, to Frank G. Zak and Christina (Schwertner) Zak in the small community of Red Bank, north of Miles, Texas. Polly lived a long and fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
Polly attended a one-room schoolhouse on her grandmother's farm and spent her childhood walking to school, playing along the way. She was the only girl, second in line, in a family of three brothers: Andy, Clarence, and Jay. She cherished her childhood memories of playing house in an old wagon and picking cotton on the family farm between Ballinger and Paint Rock, Texas. Though life brought its challenges—including losing her home in a fire in 1939 and the passing of her mother when she was just 16—Polly always persevered with grace.
Polly attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Rowena and later became a cheerleader and athlete at Norton High School, where she played volleyball and basketball and served on the class book staff. She graduated from San Angelo High School in 1947.
In 1949, Polly married the love of her life, Benny Brosh. Together, they shared a beautiful life and had two sons, Gary and Rick. Tragically, Benny passed away in 1972, but Polly's love for him and their shared memories remained strong throughout her life.
Polly was an active member of her community and church, serving as a room mother at Holy Angels School and San Jacinto School, vice president of the PTA, and a Den Mother for her sons' Cub Scout troops. She was also a proud member of the Halo Women’s Society and had a wide circle of cherished friends.
Polly was blessed with a close and loving family. She is survived by her two sons, Gary and wife Donna of San Angelo, and Rick and wife Deannie of Watertown, Tn, as well as her four grandchildren Derek and wife Amanda of San Antonio, Shayla and husband Joe Dankworth of Ballinger, Ryan of Lubbock, and Aaron and wife Kaitlyn of San Angelo. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Jaclynn, Jaxon, Bryce, Paisly, Jade, Stetson, Aarolyn, and Piper. Her family meant the world to her and she took great pride in their achievements.
Polly's life was rich in memories and experiences. Her passion for life, her deep love for family, and her boundless sense of adventure made her a beloved presence in the lives of all who knew her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Polly’s cousins, Suzanne Barta and Janice Smith, for their lifelong friendship, unwavering care, and loving support during her final months.
Rosary/Visitation for Polly will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 8th at 6pm and Graveside Services on Wednesday, October 9th, 10am at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Derek Brosh, Ryan Brosh, Aaron Brosh, Joe Dankworth, Jaxon Dankworth, Casey Alexander and honorary pallbearer Stetson Brosh.
