Mary Ann Cates Motl passed from this life on June 29, 2018 continuing her quest for heaven, with God as her Maker and Jesus her guide. Mary, or Grandmother as everyone knew her, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children. She was born September 29, 1935 to George and Artie Cates in San Angelo, Texas. Mary was a lifetime resident of San Angelo and cofounded Motl Welding with her husband Ellis Motl in 1962. They worked side by side for 32 years and retired in 1995.
Mary is preceded in death by her cowboy and soul mate of 59 years, Ellis Motl, and their baby boy Benjamin Ellis Motl Jr. She is survived by daughters; Darlene and Eddie Williams, Brenda Motl, and son Daniel and Becky Motl; Grandchildren Michael and Brandy Williams, Eric and Dee Williams, Greg and Amy Motl, Jessica and Mark Roberts, and Dr. Sean Motl; Great grandchildren Brook, Erica, Coleton, Michaela, Gabe, Ella, and Payson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
After the passing of her husband in 2011, Mary came out of retirement to spend the last 7 years working at the Welding Shop with her son Daniel. She was always available to spend time with people and loved talking about life's journeys and her love and faith in our savior Jesus Christ. She was the matriarch of our family and was always there to offer her love and support. She will be greatly missed by all but we find comfort in knowing that she passed from this life into the Kingdom of God.
