James Troy Wright, age 79, of San Angelo TX, passed away on Tuesday, January 14th 2020. He was born in Texas City, TX to Troy Hayden Wright and Lillie Belle (Parrish) Wright on August 20th 1940. James graduated from Texas City High School, then he went to Lamar University on a golf scholarship where he received his Bachelor’s degree. Lamar won the National Athlete Intercollegiate Association golf championship twice while James was on the team and won the Texas conference title three out of his four years. He married his wife Martha Catherine Hedman-Wright on January 7th, 1987. James had a successful career in the golfing industry as a P.G.A. Golfing Professional for River Oaks C.C., Kingwood C.C., and the Pirates Golf Club in Galveston. He was a lifelong member of The Professional Golf Association and he coached golf to highschoolers in Boerne and Huntsville. Along with his love of golf, James was also passionate about square dancing, which is how he met his wife Martha.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his only brother, Harold Wright. He is survived by his beloved wife Martha, his daughter Jamie Wright Wilder and husband Randy, stepson Martin A. and wife Ana Hedman, and his grandchildren: Sheridan Prause Slater, Macy Wilder Baker, Brittany Parks Foreman, Robert Edward Parks III, Bethany J. Wilder, and Justin A. Hedman. James was dearly loved and will truly be missed.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, January 17th 2020 at 2:00 PM at Fairmount Cemetery.
