Irene Ellen Newman

Family visitation will be held Thursday, April 14th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 15th at Belmore Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Irwin and Rev. Mike Burson officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Irene was born May 27, 1917 in Lometa, Texas to Joe D. and Addie L. (Brister) Beeman. She graduated from Shannon School of Nursing in 1939 and practiced at Shannon, St. John’s and Clinic hospitals in San Angelo as well as being in much demand as a loving private duty nurse. She was a longtime resident of San Angelo and lived in Dallas for 4 ½ years. Irene was a charter member of Belmore Baptist Church.

Irene married Alvin E. (Bronc) Newman on January 21, 1940 in Barnhart, TX. and they were happily married for 53 years. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her Mom and Dad, 3 sisters, 7 brothers and grandson Ty Taylor.

Mom’s love of the Lord and people was shown in her everyday life by her sweet, sweet smile and her caring and giving spirit. She is a blessing to her kids and all who met her. She led all her life by Christian example and faith. In her earlier years, Mom was an athlete excelling in basketball, tennis, golf, and diving and swimming.

Survivors include her children Lynda Newman Mayes and husband Butch (T.E.), Larry Joe Newman, Ronda Newman Steffey and husband Jim, Sara Newman Taylor all of Dallas; grandchildren Rusty and Taryn Mayes, Michael Newman Mayes, Morgan Leigh Steffey all of Dallas and Ashley Paige Steffey of Austin; great grandchildren Jessica Ann, Michael Weston, Tommy and Tanner Mayes and Emory Jane Thomson all of Dallas; sister Mildred (Sally) Allen of Fresno, CA. and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
