Betty Springer passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014, at Regency House at the age of 90. Elizabeth (Betty) Miller Baldwin was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on February 19, 1924. She was originally named Virginia Helen Baldwin, but was renamed Elizabeth Miller Baldwin to honor her mother who passed away when Betty was an infant. When her father, R.L. Baldwin moved to San Angelo to open Angelo Automotive, Betty attended Santa Rita Elementary, San Angelo High School and went on to graduate from San Angelo Jr. College. She served in the Civil Service and arrived in Hawaii shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Betty met her best friend C.R. (Bud) Springer while working in Midland and they married on June 4, 1949. They had two children, Ron and Donna, and moved to San Angelo to join Betty's father in the family business. Betty was actively involved at St. Luke Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and a faithful member of the CIHU (Can I Help U) Sunday School Class. She was a lover of all animals and a wonderful cook. She spent much of her retirement reading and being a wonderful grandmother. She always thought of others and how she could serve them. She was preceded in death in 2013 by her husband of 64 years, Bud Springer. Survivors include her son Ron (Melinda) Springer and daughter Donna Springer all of San Angelo. She is also survived by grandchildren Grant (Meghan) Springer, Sara Springer, Lauren (Robert) Renz, Leslie (Barry) Adams and two great-grandchildren Sophia and Anthony Renz. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pauline Norwood and Betty Taylor who were like family when Bud and Betty lived at Myrtlewood Estates as well as Susan Cole who was a wonderful nurse and special friend at Regency House. St. Luke Methodist Church never forgot Bud and Betty even after they were unable to attend church activities. Thank you to Reverend Bill Harris for his ministering to Bud and Betty as well as their CIHU Sunday School Class, Sandra Roberts and Nettie Cavin for their visits, flowers and cards. The family will receive friends at visitation on Sunday, December 7th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8th at St. Luke United Methodist Church officiated by the Reverend Bill Harris. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the CIHU Sunday school class. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church or a preferred charity.
