Dorothy Lee Atkinson Cross

Dorothy Lee (Atkinson) Cross went to be with her Lord on July 2, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Cross and a daughter, Donna Cross. She is survived by her son, Clayton (Clay) Cross of San Angelo and her daughter, Judy (Cross) Long of Hutto. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Doug Lubke, Ron Lubke, Dusty Hester and Danielle Cross all of San Angelo, Trenton Long of Columbus, Georgia, Trevor Long and Trey Long of Austin, Texas and Tara Long Packer of Hutto, Texas and Cindy Titus of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Mills County in the small community of Ridge to Louis and Lela Atkinson on June 25, 1922 and was the youngest of six children. Her family later moved to San Saba County where she graduated from high school at Richland Springs, Texas. After graduating, she attended and graduated from Business College in Brownwood, Texas. It was there she met her husband Clay, who was in the Air Force stationed at Camp Bowie. They were married November 18, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri. The military afforded Dorothy the opportunity to travel which she enjoyed. During her life she managed to visit all 50 states and much of Europe while residing in England. After her husband’s retirement from the military at Goodfellow AFB, the family settled in San Angelo and raised their family. In later years, business endeavors moved them to Del Rio, Texas where she lived and worked for Jim Hardin and the CPA firm of Hardin and Newsom for almost 40 years and permanently retired from there one month before her 90th birthday. While living in Del Rio she was an active member of the Central Church of Christ and later in San Angelo the Chadbourne North Church of Christ. After her retirement, she returned to San Angelo to be closer to her children and was currently residing at the St. Angelus Assisted Living facility. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M.
