Pat Shattuck went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2011. Pat was born June 25, 1931 to Elson and Mae Shattuck in Texon, Texas. He attended Big Lake High School. He met and married Mary Lou Whitehead in Big Lake, Texas in 1951. Pat worked in the oil industry most of his life, which took him from Texas to Colorado. Returning to San Angelo in 1986, he worked for Tom Green County. Upon retirement, he devoted himself to the care of Mary Lou, who lost her battle with Multiple Sclerosis in March of 1999. They were married for 47 years. In August of 2000, Pat married his second love, Nancy Tyler. They enjoyed 11 years together, traveling many places. Pat was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Iraan attending several mission trips to Mexico to build churches. He and his family built a house on Lake Buchanan, where they enjoyed many summers. He was an excellent woodworker, leatherworker and welder. He made countless pieces of beautiful art, which he enjoyed giving away to family and friends. Pat was most proud of being awarded the Eagle Scout Badge from Concho Valley Council Troop #55 in 1945 at the age of 14. He continued his devotion to the community by serving as Scout Master for Troop #49 in Iraan, Texas for many years. Later, he served as the host for the Texon Troop #55 reunion in San Angelo. Pat loved to entertain his friends and family with animated stories of his youth and the adventures of his life. He was also known for his mischievous sense of humor to the delight of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou; his brothers, Lloyd and Gene; and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Donna Thorp; son, Don Shattuck and his wife Stacy; son Tim Shattuck and wife Mari; stepdaughter Karen Bivins and husband Garry; Stepson, Jerry Martin; grandchildren Christine Patrick and Sarah Thorp; Nathan, Susan and Abbye Shattuck; Emily and Garrett Fiveash; Melissa Martin; and two great grandchildren McKinzi and Rilee Shattuck. He is also survived by his extended Texon family and his friends from the “Nifty Fifties.” Pat’s family wishes to express their great appreciation to Dr. Denver Marsh, Dr. Chris Barnett, Toni Marine and the staff at Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center for their loving care. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Services will be held graveside at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo at 10:00 A.M., on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Pallbearers for the service will be Don and Tim Shattuck, Travis and Daniel Elliott, Jim Noblitt, Nathan Shattuck, and Patrick Thorp. Honorary Pallbearer for the service will be Bobby Neal Merony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Pat’s honor to Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center or a charity of your choice.
